Because of lack of funding from the State, the Gallup-McKinley school district struggles with meeting minimum needs for their students. It is in desperate need for qualified instructors overall. Additionally, although the district has about 9,000 Native American students and a third of them are ELL, it offers minimal ELL services and programs for students.
Students especially suffer when it comes to college preparedness as the district doesn’t have enough counselors or resources for students to graduate prepared for college or career.
Gallup-McKinley County Schools is based in Gallup which serves students from Gallup and surrounding areas of McKinley County. In the 2015-2016 school year, the district served 11,917 students.
